OUR PURPOSE AND MISSION:

We believe in the words of Rick Warren in his book, “ The Purpose Driven Church”, that “A GREAT COMMITMENT TO THE GREAT COMMANDMENT AND THE GREAT COMMISSION OF JESUS WILL GROW A GREAT CHURCH”. (Great = faithful & fruitful)
In Matthew 22: 37-40, Jesus commands us to LOVE God and to LOVE our neighbor.
In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commissions His followers to “go out” in evangelism, to “baptize” new converts into the fellowship and to teach them to become disciples of Jesus.
These two passages summarize everything we do at the Forest City United Methodist Church. Together they give us our primary 5 fold task.
Therefore, we are committed to fulfilling all 5 tasks that Christ ordained for his church to accomplish.

WORSHIP
Purpose #1:
“ LOVE THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART”.

The word that describes this purpose is WORSHIP.
​
We are striving to develop a worship life that recognizes the traditional and contemporary for all ages.
​
We should all enjoy expressing our love of god!

MISSION
Purpose #2:
“LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF”.

The word we use to describe this purpose is MISSION.
​
The church exists to minister the love of God to people by meeting their needs and healing their hurts in the named of Jesus.

EVANGELISM
Purpose #3:
“ GO AND MAKE DISIPLES”
​
This purpose we call EVANGELISM.
​
The church exists to spread the good news of Jesus and to lead people into the family of God through the forgiveness of their sins

FELLOWSHIP
Purpose #3:
“BAPIZE THEM”
​
Baptism symbolizes a vital purpose of the church: FELLOWSHIP (Belonging to the family of God.)
​
As Christians, we are called to belong, not just believe.
Baptism symbolizes not only our new life in church, but it visualizes in the unity of the body of Christ.
The church exists to provide fellowship for believers.
That's why we always say as we welcome new members, “Welcome to the family, we are glad you've come to share your life with us.”

DISCIPLESHIP
Purpose #5:
“TEACH THEM TO OBEY”

The word we use for this purpose is DISCIPLESHIP (Education)
​
The church exists to edify or educate God’s people so we become more and more like Jesus.
This process begins when we are born again and continues throughout the rest of our lives.
